Periodic Limb Movement Disorder is a neurological disorder characterized by periodic limb movements (arms and/or legs) in sleep that disrupt the patient’s sleep and the bed partner’s sleep. The sleep disturbance can cause: insomnia, chronic daytime fatigue and excessive daytime sleepiness resulting in impaired daytime functioning and disability. A clinical evaluation with a sleep physician and a sleep study help to make the diagnosis and plan effective treatment of periodic limb movement disorder.
